About the course

An arterial blood gas (ABG) test measures the acidity (pH) and the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood from an artery. Interpreting an ABG is a crucial skill for health care personnel. ABG interpretation has a significant role in managing critically ill patients.

ABG analysis is an essential part of diagnosing and managing a patient’s oxygenation status and acid–base balance. The usefulness of this diagnostic tool is dependent on being able to correctly interpret the results.

This course will help the learners to understand the definition, indications and contraindications of ABG analysis, concept of pH, base excess, and types of acid-base imbalances, Allen's test, and techniques of ABG sampling.
